Insights from Organizers
Dr. Nguyen Anh Tu, Director of the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine – AF HANOI, shared the motivation behind organizing this conference: “During our clinical work, we’ve noticed that many couples not only struggle with infertility but also face challenges in their sexual relationships. Unlike reproductive health, which is more openly discussed, female sexual health remains a sensitive and under-addressed topic—especially in the cultural context of East Asian countries like Vietnam. Many women experiencing sexual health issues don’t know where to seek help, or silently endure psychological stress without knowing who to turn to. That’s why we hope this conference becomes a forum where specialists from across the country can exchange ideas, share experiences, and update the latest knowledge in women’s sexual health care. As a center specialized in sexual medicine, we also aim to contribute practical insights from our clinical experience to make the conference more applicable. Moreover, it is an opportunity to connect experts from the North, Central, and South regions to form a robust collaborative network. This will enable us to offer more comprehensive, modern, and reliable approaches, giving patients better access to proper care tailored to their needs.”
Challenges in Female Sexual Health in Vietnam
According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Tu, one of the major challenges in addressing women's sexual health in Vietnam is the lack of awareness among patients themselves. Many women face difficulties finding suitable clinics or don’t know how to voice their concerns or share their private issues.
In addition, sexual medicine is still a relatively new field—not only in Vietnam but globally. In current medical training programs, this topic is not yet thoroughly covered. However, worldwide trends show increasing attention to this field, with the emergence of professional organizations such as:
- International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM)
- International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH)
- International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD)
- Vietnam Society for Sexual Medicine (VSSM)
These organizations serve as respected platforms for doctors and experts to collaborate, research, and stay updated with specialized knowledge.
