HPV – PREP

Overview

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the main cause of cervical cancer. Every day in Vietnam, about 14 women are newly diagnosed with cervical cancer and 7 women die from this disease. But this is considered the most preventable cancer.

To screen for cervical cancer most effectively, it is necessary to combine two methods: PAP (E-Prep) and HPV-DNA. Specifically:

For the smear test (E - Prep), the sample will be checked for the presence of any abnormal cells.
For the HPV-DNA test, the sample is checked for the presence of HPV strains.

Due to their specific tasks, these two methods are not interchangeable, they complement each other to help doctors diagnose and provide appropriate treatment for each individual patient.

E-prep

E - Prep results will indicate whether the cells in the cervix are damaged, to what extent.
Procedure: The patient sample (cervical smear) will be placed in a vial of Eprep solution to remove impurities (blood, mucus, ...) by dual membrane technology and a spread vacuum system. A thin layer of cells was placed on a slide.

HPV ADN

HPV is a virus that leads to the growth of genital warts or changes the cells of the cervix and leads to cervical cancer.
HPV 16 and HPV 18 are found in more than 80% of cervical cancers.
