The great development of gene sequencing technology has opened up many applications and brought great clinical value in the field of postpartum screening and diagnosis. One of the outstanding applications, creating a breakthrough in the field of pediatrics is the NBS test.
At the workshop, rapporteur Nhung detailed the importance of SLSS testing and NBS testing packages at GENTIS. According to Circular No. 34/2017/TT-BYT, SLSS is the use of techniques to detect infants at risk of congenital abnormalities, diseases related to endocrine - metabolic disorders - heritable but not clinically manifest in the neonatal period.
NBS is considered the most effective measure to help detect abnormalities early so that they can take quick and timely measures to avoid disturbances and injuries. In addition, NBS also increases the survival rate, limits the impact of the disease, and helps prolong the patient's life. At the same time, NBS helps save medical and healthcare costs thanks to early detection.
Reporter Nhung also recommends taking a blood sample from the baby's heel between 48-72 hours after birth, the best time to take blood is 48 hours after birth. Early blood collection can be done in some cases such as early discharge from the hospital, however a second test may be necessary. After 72 hours, blood collection can still proceed with unchanged test value. changes, but sampling too late will not guarantee early detection and prompt treatment.
Currently, genetic tests have been strongly applied in the field of pediatrics, while creating many positive changes. GENTIS is one of the pioneers in the field of genetic analysis in Vietnam.
NBS test at GENTIS can detect diseases: G6PD enzyme deficiency, Congenital hypothyroidism, Congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Phenylketonuria, Galactosemia; metabolic disorders and hemoglobin disease. Notably, the time to return test results is fast, thereby enhancing the value of the test in early detection and timely treatment.
After the report, the doctors at Hoa Binh Provincial General Hospital directly discussed with reporter Nhung the actual situations encountered and questions related to the NBS test. Answering a question from CKI doctor Dinh Thi Chien - Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hoa Binh General Hospital, reporter Nhung said that with the NBS test packages at GENTIS, if the child has a high-risk result, Dr. Dr. Tran Thi Chi Mai - Head of Department of Biochemistry and National Hospital of Pediatrics will read the results and advise, giving the next direction.
